3 Bar G Turbine #3

Installed August 2011

PDF – 3 Bar G Turbine #3 Description

Three Bar G Ranch is a cattle operation on Thorp Prairie, some of the windiest land west of Ellensburg. Owners Frank and Robert Gregerich are interested in finding uses for the extensive acreage that preserve the open space and rural character in the face of housing developments that threaten to fragment the prairie. A wind turbine seems like a win-win option for them, the prairie, and the community.

The 3 Bar G #3 turbine was installed in August 2011 and has been producing energy since. The project is projected to producee enough power for about 55 energy efficient homes (around 250,000 kWh a year).

Subscriptions for one percent of the output of this turbine cost $4,400. CCWC estimates that each subscription over it’s 20-year life will create $6,000 in power bill credits, and renewable energy credits (REC) offsetting 50,000 pounds of carbon. REC-only subscriptions are available for $1,100, providing you with a REC from locally produced wind energy and helping to pay off the project’s construction costs.

The local economy will benefit from this project beyond just the power savings to subscribers. Those benefits are the land lease payment to the Gregeriches, local taxes, local maintenance work, profits to local turbine owners, payments to local lenders, and more. There are also multiplier effects of this money circulating in the community.
