3 Bar G Turbine #3

Installed August 2011

PDF – 3 Bar G Turbine #3 Description

Three Bar G Ranch is a cattle operation on Thorp Prairie, some of the windiest land west of Ellensburg. Owners Frank and Robert Gregerich are interested in finding uses for the extensive acreage that preserve the open space and rural character in the face of housing developments that threaten to fragment the prairie. A wind turbine seems like a win-win option for them, the prairie, and the community.

The 3 Bar G #3 turbine was installed in August 2011 and has been producing energy since. The project is projected to producee enough power for about 55 energy efficient homes (around 250,000 kWh a year).

Project Details

Wind Turbine Specifications: Turbine Three Bar G No. 3 is a Vestas V20 120-kilowatt turbine with a 60-foot diameter rotor on a 80-foot monopole tower. It produces enough energy to power approximately 55 energy-efficient homes, or 250,000 kWh yearly output. Total project cost was $440,000. Status: active, installed August 2011; currently seeking subscriptions.

Environmental Benefit: Energy generated by the Three Bar G No. 3 turbine is projected to offset 5 million pounds of carbon emissions over the 20-year life of the turbine.

Economic Benefits: Contributes $8,300 in annual tax revenue and adds $92,000 to the local economy each year. (Calculation source: Washington Wind Energy Guidebook)

Location: Turbine Three Bar G No. 3 is located in Kittitas County’s Thorp Prairie, approx. 10 miles west of Ellensburg, Wash., on the Three Bar G Ranch. The 1000- acre grazing land, used by cattle ranch owners Frank and Robert Gregerich, provides a perfectly windy setting for the turbine and will help preserve the land’s rural character in the face of housing development that threatens to fragment the prairie.

Subscription Cost: $4,400 for each percentage of the turbine’s energy output for the entire 20-year life of the turbine. CCWC can help you decide what size subscription meets your needs and goals for energy cost savings. (i.e.,1% subscription = $4,400; 3% = $13,200; 10% = $44,000)

Subscriber Savings: CCWC estimates that each percentage of your subscription will generate $6,000 in savings to your electric bill over the 20-year life of the turbine. (i.e. 1% subscription = $6,000 savings; 3% = $18,000 savings; 10% = $60,000 savings)

Renewable Energy Certificates: REC Contracts for Three Bar G No.3 are available for $1,100 per each percent. (i.e. a REC contract for 1% is $1,100, 3% is $3,300, etc.) RECs provide businesses and individuals with an opportunity to purchase carbon offsets, reduce pollution, stimulate the local economy, and support a powerful, local renewable energy project. Event greening RECs offset nonrenewable energy consumption of an event and are available to purchase in $40 per mWh increments.
